Project: Short Tracks Presents NEW LONDON-WATERFORD SPEEDBOWL 2016
In the Spring of 2015, Bruce Bemer was awarded the winning bid in the foreclosure auction of the .375 mi. Waterford Speedbowl. Not only did he save the historic Connecticut speed plant from possibly closing down forever, but he re-opened the track for racing that year and pledged to make future improvements to the facility to benefit both the racers and spectators alike. Over this past winter, the Project: Short Track development team began work on a night version of the track following up on our successful launch of the massively updated and popular Waterford_PST day version. However, once the real track opened for racing in the Spring of 2016, several upgrades had been made to the racing facility over the winter, including the following:
* Re-branding the track to it's original name: New London-Waterford Speedbowl.
* Brand new fortified safety catch fencing around the track replacing the old tattered fencing.
* New concrete walls replacing the old dilapidated Armco walls.
* Removal of the old retaining posts and cables that circled the perimeter of the race track.
* Brand new backstretch scoreboard.
* Brand new officials stands in turns 2, 3 and 4.
* Brand new turn 2 pit entry gate.
Well, we couldn't consider not including them in this project, so all of the above improvements have now been incorporated into both of these new 2016 day and night versions of the track. And true to our reputation of trying to duplicate all of detailing minutia we can into our tracks to closely resemble the real-life counterparts, we have updated it with all new 2016 billboards, trucks, objects and many other little immersion details that will be very familiar to racers and patrons who frequent the NLWS. However, it's not only about all of the awesome eye-candy.... NLWS_2016_PST features a challenging and excellent racing experience against the 26 A.I. cars, as well as for online league events.
As mentioned above, the initial goal of this project was to produce a night version of the speedway and while we are offering a beautiful updated day version with this release, the real "Star" of this offering is the night version. We have worked very hard to provide the "feel" of another realistic short track night racing environment very similar to our other night track projects. We sure hope you'll enjoy it.
Special thanks go out to Wayne, Ian and Carl who very accurately modeled all of the familiar objects you see in the tracks. Also to Ben, who handled the lions share of all of the graphics work (signs, haulers, trucks and immersion consultation) and J.R., who managed the project, placed all of the objects, painstakingly tweaked all of the graphics and textures, dialed in the A.I. and created the day and nighttime environments. Please consult the CREDITS README file provided with the tracks for all of the credit details and important information for getting the best results when running these tracks.
Enjoy the ride from "The Team That Makes Short Track Racing a Virtual Reality!"

Hate to take away from this, but is Thompson close to finalizing? For sure would be the short track of the year, possibly one of the best ever built if the .ai is built properly.

Thompson is getting closer. Graphically, the day version is finished. We're just working on the a.i. and some pitting issues. Once those are sorted out, we'll likely go ahead with the release of just the day version, rather than hold off the release while we complete the night version.
