Ini and set-up question

When the patch came out for n2003 did Papyrus or PWF release standard set ups or updated inis for the tracks that came with the game?

Re: Ini and set-up question

The patch replaced the ini's that came with the initial game to include the patch mods.

The patch opened up mods; so all ini's had to be replaced to include stanzas for the mods, and the patch put the mod setups (expert.bgn whatever) in as well.

PWF tracks came much later (after they got support from John Henry and that guy (my memory is evading me now) that headed up the papy stuff and does iRacing) ... and were all different tracks, or converter tracks (and the converter wasn't out until after the patch).

Wasn't it first the GNS mod and later the CTS mod that updated the ini's with GNS and CTS specific lines?
I think one of the papy patches made the jasper sets outdated but I could be wrong on that.

nope....... the patch opened up the mods already hidden in the game. So the INI's had to be replaced along with adding BGN and CTS setups.

There was no separate "offering" or "download" to get the BGN or CTS. It just showed up. Paints came later.

smile......... haven't reformatted your computer lately, huh?

Jasper setups were a joke to begin with....... even the sierra board fanboys figured that out pretty quick.

Re: Ini and set-up question

I still have the readme's for both patches, 1.1.0.2 dated 07/30/03 and 1.2.0.1 dated 09/02/03. emoticon

Something documented in both of them buried down toward the bottom of the file ---

TRACK DIRECTION SETTING

There's a new line which can be added the TRACK.INI near where you specify chassis and track types, called "track_dir". A setting of "1" means the track turns left or counter-clockwise only, so the normal "inside=left" and "outside=right" spotter is used, and tires are mounted on the car for turning left. A setting of "-1" means it's a right or clockwise track, so a reversed "outside=left" and "inside=right" spotter is used, and the tires are mounted on opposite sides than a left track. A setting of "0" means the track turns both left and right, so the spotter will only refer to "left" and "right" instead of "inside" and "outside", and only "outside" tires are mounted on the car so it can turn in both directions equally.

Note that by default the game assumes a track is a left-hand oval, so for most tracks this setting will be absent. Additionally using "track_type=5" to specify a road course automatically turns on the "left/right" spotter behavior, so you should only need to use the "track_dir=0" if you had a left/right track that you did not want to be counted as a road course (i.e. single-file restarts only, road course Sierra.com ratings, etc.).

smile....... rookies......... geez

uh........ YEAH.

you don't get BGN and CTS unless you install the patch. You don't get ANY mod without the patch.

Now, if you want to run the sport car mods like TPTCC or PWF's Trans Am mod , then you need to figure out the patches to fix the "driver car is lower". TPTCC fixed it in-mod, PWF released a driver car patch to raise the car up.

I remember posting a pic of an AI below me at Bristol, and his car was HIGHER than I was. Everyone on Sierra's board poo-poo'ed me....... until the Pits sports car mod came out and the drivers cars were down inside the track.

the Papy human car is lower than the AI cars on a vertical plane.

Come on now, I am no rookie, I figured out what happened, I installed the game on my laptop to get the game tracks and never installed the patch on my lap top just lifted the game tracks off it.
