Coming Soon - Chicago Motor Speedway

This track, a one-mile oval in Cicero, Illinois that hosted CART and the NASCAR Trucks until 2002, has been sorely lacking for this game.

This project started when I was looking for the beta for this track with the intention of fixing it up. I couldn't find it, so I took it upon myself to recreate it.

This is the first track that I've done where I made my own 3DOs, as I bought 3DSimEd a while ago.

Very very nice, once this is made only Tucson and Saugus will be the only two truck tracks never made for NR2003.

OK......... some constructive suggestions......

those highly repetitive 3d crowd colors are not any better than pizza people from the original. There are 3d people out there (yeah from a long time ago) that give a more diverse look. Some are easy to install; others tedious as hell, but they look good in-game.

You still need to fill in the horizon. Chicago didn't have 'nothing' in the background.

You're really relying on default 3do's for tents, trucks, etc. Dig around in other people's tracks and find stuff that will make it look real. My god; I know in several of my tracks, there are all kinds of unique truck haulers, tents, etc. You're welcome to use any 3do in any steveb73 track.

You are about to offer up a NEW track to this game. Because of that, you need to work at your track; make it your own! No one else has a Chicago. This could be yours, and it could be special or it could be mundane. Make it special. Put in the effort, even if it takes you a year or more to make the track....... then make the AI for it (buuuwwaahHAAAHHAA).

But yes, it looks good, and thank you for the effort. You seem to know what/how to do what you need to do. Make that effort. And....... there are lots of old track editors floating around on this board that can provide you with advice.

You didn't just ask "can someone make Chicago?" You went and did it! Congrats! Don't be shy to ask for help here.

Agreed. I'm not a track maker, so I didn't comment, but if I was gonna take screen shots of this tack, I wouldn't, based on the grandstand crowd alone. It's really ugly and does the tack no justice.

Also, if your looking for references to the track, Sylvester Stallone's "Driven" (The movie about CART in 2000) Has a scene of Chicago in the movie. You can always get a feel that way. Also, this might help you:

The 2000 CART Chicago Race: [url][sign in to see URL]

The 2000 NASCAR CTS Chicago race: [url][sign in to see URL]

The 2001 NASCAR Chicago race: [url][sign in to see URL]

The video's SHOULD be used for research (But also a kick of throwback!). I say for research, so you can get the trackside objects, signs, and banners all correct.

YouTube also has CART races in there entirety from 1999-2002, and the CTS trucks from 2000 and 2001.

When going to Youtue, use "Chicago CART" for the Cart races (CrapwagonChampcarfan has the videos) and use "Chicago Craftsman Trucks" for the NASCAR trucks.

I hope what I said also helps. If you need pictures, I can do my best to Google some things.

The only input I can offer is that on 8/18/01, (I remember the date because it was a day before my heart attack emoticon) I was working the flagstand for an ARCA truck race, and it's hard to explain, but everything felt more "closed in" than it seems it would be in your version. Everything just felt closer to everything else. Example, the sound wall along the backstretch seemed bigger, the scoring tower seemed closer to the track, and things seemed closer to the wall in the turn 1 area where most of the horse racing specific things were. Because of the fact I worked a race there, I am looking forward to it though.

Ceej91,
I hope you recognize all these comments as constructive suggestions. You've put in a lot of work obviously.

If this was back in the heyday of the game, you'd have gotten similar feedback from your beta testers.

As I noted, you have the chance to put something out there special. I hope you take advantage of this forum, and your skills to make this happen.

Please believe us; we support you. You ask; we'll respond.
