Junior Hanley Numbers

A lot of folks in NR2k3 have shared several things with myself and my bud Raybee1970.

Bowtie, Ian @ Smiffsden, J.R. Franklin, Matt O'Reilly badhairday, Bill, and several other folks. So we wanted to share back something with all of you.

Many folks love the old style cars like we do.. emoticon

So I asked Bill @ SimPaints to host my Junior Hanley Numbers so folks in the NR2k3 community could use them..

Not to criticize, but to "enhance". I've re-lettered a few Hanley cars in real life.

The 6 really needs the colors switched around. Too obvious it's the 9 turned over. Granted, the original lettering on his car, and the cars he built, doesn't follow a lot of conventional "rules", but that doesn't really follow what few "rules" that were used. The 0 in kind of the same way.

Didn't find images on the net of the cars I did in that style, but these are designs from the original painter for Hanley.

Here is a good source of the original concept for that style by the guy who did it originally. The 03-Monaghan, 10-Sommers (with the blue stripe around the side window), 45-Barker, 81-Hanley(borrowed from Harold Fair, Sr.), and 91-Urlin.

Re: Junior Hanley Numbers

Thank you for the constructive feedback! I love getting this type of feedback.emoticon

I'm not known for being a painter. I create models from scratch and do my own texture work for my models.emoticon

The Junior Hanley numbers I created for my buddy for some car models that are being used in a private project of ours...emoticon

When I first created these numbers the reference pictures were mostly black and white photo's. The basic shape of the fonts required a little guessing once I noticed several reference images did not all use a uniform font base. In fact, most of the reference shots I had from several different fonts painted in a similar way.

I picked the most common shape in the pictures as a base. The colors demanded some guessing too, since some pictures were kinda blurred or in black & white.

Man I wish I had some of these reference pictures before hand.
Thank you again for the great feedback.

Just for that here's some renders of one our models for you to check out.. Part of the render's are blacked out because that part has to do with our long term private project.

These are just personal and some fictional rides of ours. emoticon

Now I'm gonna have to redue these numbers again down the road for out project. emoticon

Thanks again for the tips, much appreciated!! emoticon

Where did you get, and for which mod, were those older Camaro template from . . . or is that part of your project?

And yeah, most of us old "brush dog" sign painters didn't really adhere to tightly to the idea of "fonts". I, for one, would just layout the lettering in a style like something I might have seen, maybe, somewhere, at sometime. Or create something new on the fly, without realizing it. emoticon

That's part of a NH project. emoticon I'm probably getting you confused.

For the last two years I've been working on a private project for NH.

In another thread you've probably seen one about Vintage modifieds. The Vintage modifieds is a project that I'm currently working on that will be released in NH and nr2k3.

The Vintage modifieds on the NR2k3 side those models J.R. Franklin and Ian are in charge of doing whatever they want with once they are done.. emoticon My gift to them. emoticon

Sorry for the mass confusion.. emoticon
