Combine Mods?
Would it be possible to combine 2 cars from one mod to 2 cars of another mod?
What my thought is wouldnt it be relatively easy to do a Le Mans/Grand Am Mod with 2 cars from the GTP mod and 2 Cars from the Trans-Am mod? Or One GTP and 3 Trans-Am models?
You'd put the GTP cars at 100 and Trans-Am at 50 for the ratings so that it Replicates Grand-Am
Or 25 for GT2, 50 for GT1, 75 for LMP2 and 100 for LMP1 for a Le Mans mod

Re: Combine Mods?
No, not really. You would need all the source files with all the damage models and everything, to be able to compile it all back into a single mod.
The folks who did the PWF Trans Am mod and the GTP mod are long gone... as are any chances of probably getting the source files.
Lots of stuff goes into making a mod, as you are probably aware, but running the models through the various tools to create the .3do files is one of the more complicated processes for doing the mods, and without source files for the stuff, it would probably be easier to make a whole mod from scratch instead.
Might want to look into GTR2, Rfactor of even Heat again, if you ware wanting an easier way of combining mods together. Its much too much work to do it in NR2003.

Re: Combine Mods?
In theory it should work so long as both models are of the same physics (i.e pta), but I've never tried it in practice.
Edit: just tried it and no it doesn't work, back to the drawing board....

Re: Combine Mods?
maybe, i guess we could do it if we had a good help from the old theuspits guys, cuz trans-am aren't a stuff from them???
so, we could ask to them to compile only one gtp car to their job (asking don duhan from redline) and alas have u there...

Re: Combine Mods?
Last I heard Redline and all the members are MIA and cant be asked for the source files, which I was told is what we need to convert the cars.
I was told its simpler to make new cars.

Re: Combine Mods?
The main guy that did the models is MIA, the rest of the crew have drunk the iRacing Koolaid so cant' or won't help on anything.
I tried contacting them about updating some of their tracks and never got a straight answer from anyone.

Re: Combine Mods?
You guys just aren't getting it. It is not that the models are needed. It is the megs of scripting needed to combine the 4 different models into one 3DO file. That is the way N2K3 works for the car models. For all the other stuff in the sim, we can go dig it out and modify the snot out of it. To modify the combined car model 3DO, it is not possible due to the way it is put together.
This has been suggested for years. To do such a mod all 4 car shapes and all the damage models for the 4 car shapes would have to be assembled. That is the easy part. Then a script is required to merge them into one 3DO file. This is very difficult. It is hundred of lines of code to combine them into one file. Very, very hard.
Someone like Denis or Ian has the drive to do the development work on a mod and do all this on their own. It is a huge undertaking. They often will share the work out just because it is such a huge task.
And this isn't some application that has a spellchecker to fix your mistakes for you. It is days of compile, test, and debug. And then repeat over and over. I do not see how they keep the faith, it would drive others bonkers trying to cope with it.
Don't believe me? The software to do it is free. Many have downloaded it. Many have looked at it. Many have walked away saying they can't do it.
Quit whining and prove me wrong.

Re: Combine Mods?
And then Dennis is rewarded for that work by all the crap that he had to endure over the Nationwide mod, and was why he closed his project alltogether.
--- Sprint Cup races would be just fine with 36 cars.
